“THE BLACK MALE CHILD!” And who will save the Black Male Child who’s lost his
smile because he feels no pride? The Black Male Child is growing wild he feels self hate
self doubt inside! The Black Male Child needs all your love to help uplift his life! The Black Male Child needs self respect to turn from drugs and street gang strife! At home in
school The Black Male Child is seldom understood! He feels put down and all alone oftimes he feels he’s not much good! The prison and the graveyard wait for this sensitive
child to falter! Too many do then me and you are crying at the altar! And who will try to understand to kill this child is in the plan and will you see the good in him to help him grow from boy to man! And will you teach The Black Male Child the history of his race and will you teach him confidence so he can stand and face a world of secret racists whose greed is their great sin? They smile and shake his hand then plot and plan to do him in! Oh The Black Male Child don’t have much chance in this cold world of false romance! Why is his father brutalized right before his eyes? Why is his father gone? TV temptation is so strong he joins a gang for friendship then ends up doing wrong! Give him your friendship help him turn so much he has to learn! If we only lock him down and put him down more wrong will return! And will you teach him that good health is his greatest wealth along with recognition of the beauty of himself? These final questions love must ask! When did you hug one last? Can the child without affection find a love direction? Ah rhythm music Sun Child dry your eyes my boy and think on love for you must understand your own self worth! Black kings and princes have been bright and precious diamonds long before oppression and race hate birth! Oh Black Male Child don’t wait too late to know that GOD has made you great! Rap is a Talking Drumbeat! Jazz belongs to you! Self Love is the only lifestyle Black Male Child! You are the future of our manhood and tomorrow’s looking good! So cherish your life and keep your smile! “BLACK MALE CHILD!” Jacinto Rhines, Jr. © 1978 (Who will you help us save him?)

This poem inspired me to come to Los Angeles from Atlanta, to assist my brother in his Nature's Hotline mission, ten years after he wrote it.
